One Of The Best Hockey Games We've Ever Played Is Releasing On Xbox This Month

Pure Xbox

It's called Tape to Tape, and it's really good fun. I've always been a massive fan of sports games, particularly when it comes to football (soccer) and hockey titles, but hockey in particular has really dried up in terms of headline-worthy releases outside of the EA Sports NHL series. However, I've been playing a hockey game over the past year on my ROG Xbox Ally X via Steam called Tape to Tape, and I just happened to discover that it's offically targeting an Xbox release this month alongside its 1.0 launch. Xbox Has Two More First-Party Releases In 2026, And They Could Be The Most Lucrative

Pure Xbox

One of them is PC-only, but it's still a massive first-party game. A lot of the focus this year when it comes to Xbox first-party releases has been on Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, especially considering it's the 25th anniversary of Xbox and those franchises have been integral to the success of the brand for much if not all of its lifespan. However, there are still two more Xbox-owned games that are coming out before the end of 2026, and they might end up outperforming each of Forza, Halo and Gears. The first of these is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launches for a wide variety of platforms including Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on October 23rd. Read the full article on purexbox.com

Talking Point: The Xbox Console Experience Has Had A Phenomenal Year So Far

Pure Xbox

Team Green has really upped their game. As a humble elder gamer, I've grown alongside each generation of Xbox hardware, from palming the Duke in my tiny baby-boy hands to the golden 360 era and conception of Xbox Live. It's been a long old journey to get to this moment in time: the 25th anniversary of Xbox. Sadly, it's been a devastating year for the creatives that make our favourite games. But, comparatively, I reckon it's also been quite an encouraging one in terms of player satisfaction and the overall console experience. Read the full article on purexbox.com

'It's Kind Of A Game Changer' - Xbox's Banjo-Kazooie Is Getting Rave Reviews For The Evercade Nexus

Pure Xbox

Arguably the best way to play the game. We've talked quite a lot about Evercade in the past here at Pure Xbox, including how the company is releasing new versions of Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and DOOM around its launch of the Evercade Nexus console later this month. For those who aren't aware, Evercade is a platform where old games are relicensed and then put onto cartridges (complete with colour manuals!), and you can insert those cartridges into various forms of handhelds, home consoles and bartop arcades that Evercade has released over the past few years. Here's What The Mafia 3 Upgrade Looks Like On Xbox Series X|S

Pure Xbox

How the new Xbox versions stack up. As we mentioned yesterday, a free upgrade is out now for Mafia 3: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, accessible to digital edition owners of Mafia 3 from the Xbox One days (and presuambly via Xbox disc to digital too). If you haven't managed to locate it yet, you'll want to look for something called "Mafia III: Definitive Edition for XBOX Series X|S" on the Microsoft Store - it's a totally separate game to the original Xbox One version. As long as you own Mafia 3: DE in digital form already, it should be showing as a free download. Read the full article on purexbox.com

Pure Xbox

Seemingly rebuilt from the ground-up. Xbox is currently in the midst of working on a brand-new Xbox PC app that should start to roll out before the end of 2026, and the good folks at Windows Central have already been getting their hands on an early version of it. You can see the footage up above, which shows off a familiar yet also quite different design to the one that's currently employed by the Xbox PC app, complete with what's said to be a "big performance boost" in terms of navigation. When Forza Horizon 6 came out earlier this year, we were amongst many people who thought it was another fantastic entry in the series, and personally I think it's my favourite of all time due to its amazing map of Japan. However, over the past month in particular, we've come across quite a few instances of fan frustration in regards to the post-launch content the game has received. A very stealthy move, Mr. Bond. In most cases, if a developer adds a 60FPS mode to any game on any console, they make a big song and dance about it. This is where the fun begins. One of the Xbox games that I've been most anticipating over the past few months is Star Wars: Galactic Racer - the first ever release from UK studio Fuse Games. All of the trailers and preview footage have made it look like a dream for fans of Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, and I'm certainly someone who falls into that category. So, you better believe I was knocking on the door of the PR team for this game, desperately trying to get my hands on a pre-release review code! It ended up falling into my hands a little later than hoped, hence why we haven't published a full review yet, but I at least wanted to share some of my early impressions ahead of launch. Just be aware that these are only based on a few initial hours with the campaign, and it's still very early days for me. Read the full article on purexbox.com

Feature: We've Finally Played Xbox's New Fable Reboot, And Here's What We Think So Far

Pure Xbox

We went hands on at the recent Xbox FanFest. This year has actually been amazing for Xbox first-party releases, with all of Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day knocking it out of the park in my opinion, but there's one first-party game that I've been looking forward to in particular, and that's the Playground Games reboot of Fable. So, imagine my surprise when it was declared at the Xbox FanFest in London last week that Fable was actually playable! We immediately booked in a slot (which was a good job, because it was seemingly the most popular title at the show), and settled down for around 15 minutes with a specifically combat-focused part of the game. We loved it so much we even awarded E-Day with a banging 10/10! Read the full article on purexbox.com

Poll: How Many 'Mythic' Xbox Achievements Do You Reckon You'll Have?

Pure Xbox

Full completions are being backdated to the Xbox 360 era. The curtain was finally pulled back on Mythic Achievements this week as Xbox's equivalent to a Platinum Trophy was rolled out to Xbox Insiders, with a full public release set to follow in the coming weeks. Just to remind you, Mythic Achievements are awarded for completing all "original achievements" in an Xbox game, meaning you don't need to get all the DLC achievements or anything that's added in a later title update. Here's What Might Be Leaving Xbox Game Pass In November 2026

Pure Xbox

Some early predictions! What's leaving Xbox Game Pass in November 2026? Well, Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything just yet, but based on some games that were added to the service this time last year, we can at least make a few predictions ahead of time. We know that a lot of Xbox users want more advance notice of games leaving Xbox Game Pass, but Microsoft usually gives us around two weeks right now - and don't forget, publishers sometimes secure late deals with Microsoft to keep their games on Game Pass, even after they've been announced to be leaving! Xbox Project Helix Faces More Challenges As Micron Warns Of RAM Shortages Into 2028

Pure Xbox

"Supply-demand environment is only getting tighter". Throughout the course of 2026, we've heard various people at Xbox talking about something called the "component crisis", which refers to an ongoing memory and storage crunch that's been driven in part by demand from AI datacentres. Xbox boss Asha Sharma has advised that the entire industry needs to "innovate on affordability and efficiency" at the moment, but that obviously comes with quite a few headaches when trying to launch a next-generation console. Three More Particularly Notable Free Demos Have Just Been Added To The Xbox Store

Pure Xbox

All of them are well worth a play. Anyone in the mood for a free demo? Xbox is adding these all the time, but we wanted to draw your attention to three particularly big examples that have all landed on the Xbox Store over the past couple of days. The first of these is the demo for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, which allows you to start the game and carry over your progress to the full release later in October. The second one is a FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves demo, which follows the well-received launch of the full game earlier this year, and the final one is a demo for Elta: Defy All Gods, which features 60 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming action-platformer, with the demo already boasting a highly "Positive" reception on Steam. Despite How Amazing Xbox Disc To Digital Is, There's Some Sadness Around Forza Horizon

Pure Xbox

It's not really a surprise though. We've seen a lot of people really enjoying the new Xbox Disc to Digital feature ever since it rolled out for everyone earlier this week, and as mentioned previously, it supports over 1,500 physical games with potentially more to come. That means there are obviously some games that don't work though, and if there's one request we're seeing more than anything else, it's for Xbox to somehow find a way to gain support for various Forza Horizon games. PS5's New QSSR AI Upscaling Tech Should Make For Some Interesting Xbox Comparisons

Pure Xbox

And it may indicate where Xbox is heading in the future as well. As you may have seen over at our sister site Push Square today, Sony has announced that AI upscaling is coming to the base PS5 in the form of something called QSSR, which is very similar to the PSSR upscaling on the PS5 Pro. In a nutshell, the idea here is that QSSR analyses game images on a pixel-by-pixel basis, and then applies AI upscaling to essentially add clarity to details that would otherwise look more blurry. You can see an example of this from Ghost of Yotei up above, which is one of two games that the tech is debuting for (the other being Marvel's Wolverine). Read the full article on purexbox.com

Review: Gears Of War: E-Day (Campaign) - A Monumental Triumph For Xbox, And My Game Of The Year

E-Day exceeded expectations and made me fall in love with the series even more. Note: The following is a review for Gears of War: E-Day based on the campaign ONLY. We'll share our thoughts on multiplayer at a later date, as it wasn't made available during the pre-release period. Gears of War: E-Day is the consequence of a studio that irrefutably gets what makes these games so special. The Coalition isn’t just delivering a world-class campaign, it’s raising the bar for Gears’ combat, pushing cinematic storytelling forward, and straight-up f***ing killing it. Take-Two Signs New Deal With Xbox, But There's Debate About How Important It Actually Is

Pure Xbox

"I would speculate that this is for Project Helix". Take-Two has signed a new deal with Xbox. Great! But what does it actually mean, and is it even a newsworthy development at all? That's been the big debate on social media since the news first dropped last night. The deal was seemingly first shared by TipRanks yesterday, highlighting that Take-Two and Xbox have signed a long-term publishing agreement that allows Take-Two (the publisher behind GTA 6, NBA 2K27 and many other games) to develop, publish, manufacture, market, distribute and sell XBOX-compatible products across all XBOX devices.
