One Of The Best Hockey Games We've Ever Played Is Releasing On Xbox This Month

Pure Xbox

It's called Tape to Tape, and it's really good fun. I've always been a massive fan of sports games, particularly when it comes to football (soccer) and hockey titles, but hockey in particular has really dried up in terms of headline-worthy releases outside of the EA Sports NHL series. However, I've been playing a hockey game over the past year on my ROG Xbox Ally X via Steam called Tape to Tape, and I just happened to discover that it's offically targeting an Xbox release this month alongside its 1.0 launch. "It's not in the top five reference points": Afterworld isn't just a Fallout grand strategy game, say Paradox, it owes a lot more to the Bronze Age

Rock Paper Shotgun

When Paradox announced their post-apocalyptic North American grand strategy game Afterworld, I made the obvious comparison to Fallout. For this I should be chained to the fender of a war rig and pelted with scoops of radioactive dogfood, while being slowly driven through a pack of three-headed coyotes. In a new dev diary, Afterworld's content designer and "elder lore keeper" Luke Bean has gone into some detail about the game's setting, explaining that Afterworld owes more to study of the Bronze Age collapse than any Vault Tech malarkey. The continent's diverging tribes are also apparently far more estranged from and mystified by the "ancients" than their peers in Bethesda's RPGs. "The people of this world aren't Americans exactly," Bean began. "They are people who remember the Americans. America was an ancient empire to them, sort of the way the Roman Empire was for us, and they live in the shadow of that history. The people know that there was this time full of powerful and mysterious science. They think of the ancients - us - as people who could do anything they wanted with science. And so the central mystery of the past to them is if the ancients could do anything they wanted, why'd they all die? They must have wanted to die." Read more

Xbox Has Two More First-Party Releases In 2026, And They Could Be The Most Lucrative

Pure Xbox

One of them is PC-only, but it's still a massive first-party game. A lot of the focus this year when it comes to Xbox first-party releases has been on Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, especially considering it's the 25th anniversary of Xbox and those franchises have been integral to the success of the brand for much if not all of its lifespan. However, there are still two more Xbox-owned games that are coming out before the end of 2026, and they might end up outperforming each of Forza, Halo and Gears. The first of these is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launches for a wide variety of platforms including Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on October 23rd. Read the full article on purexbox.com

Countdown: Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Dungeon Crawl #4 - Still An All-Timer

Nintendo Life

Forested Development. I left last week's Ocarina of Time feature feeling like I might have been a little too negative about the whole thing. Three weeks into my playthrough, and I had just poo-pooed back-to-back puzzle boxes. Well, fear not, because I'm swinging in the complete opposite direction this time. This is part four of my Dungeon Crawl series, where I revisit one OoT dungeon each week in the run-up to the Switch 2 remake. Just as with the previous three editions, I'm going into dungeon specifics here, so if you've never played OoT before and you are saving yourself for the remake, just know that there are spoilers ahead! Nintendo Of America's President Comments On The Possibility Of GTA 6 On Switch 2

Nintendo Life

Don't get your hopes up... yet. November is going to be one of the most significant periods in gaming history with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. It's projected to be one of, if not the biggest entertainment launches of all time, beating out every game, book, or movie that's ever been released. Wowie-zowie. So naturally, many folks continue to question whether Rockstar's latest title will be coming to the Switch 2. After all, Nintendo's new console has proven itself more than capable of handling some of the most graphically-intensive games out there, so the possibility of a port in the future isn't entirely out of the question. Wardogs season 2 deepens the sandbox shooter's capitalist hell by letting you bet cash on your own performance

Talking Point: The Xbox Console Experience Has Had A Phenomenal Year So Far

Team Green has really upped their game. Between 2026-09-30 and 2026-10-07 there were 107 New Steam games released with Native Linux builds. For reference, during the same time, there were 735 games released for Windows on Steam, so the Linux versions represent about 14.6 % of total released titles. This week our selection is quite short despite the large initial pool of games. Worth noting is Toy Shire, a tower defense game in a very nice package. Let’s not forget Train Station Tycoon that is still early but shows some great promise. Find details for those 2 and more games below!

Draw maps of a vampiric lighthouse that defies logic in This Is Not For You, the latest horror game inspired by House of Leaves

This Is Not For You is, in fact, for some very specific kinds of people. It is for people who love drawing maps, and it is for people who love having their blood sucked by a non-Euclidean lighthouse. Video games aren't the enemy of kids' mental health – ignoring them is | Opinion

GamesIndustry.biz

Video games have become an easy target in conversations about young people's mental health, often without much understanding of the positive role they can play. Parents cite them as the cause of anxiety, isolation, and poor sleep. Researchers, meanwhile, keep finding that the picture is far from black and white. Games can be a lifeline for socially anxious kids, a coping tool for those with ADHD, a rare space where isolated teens feel competent and connected. Read more

Forza Horizon 6's first major expansion will pull up in January, now Playground Games just need to offer any kind of hint whatsoever as to what it'll look like

Rock Paper Shotgun

Forza Horizon 6 has, as is standard for the live-service racing series, settled into a steady rhythm of revolving weekly to-do lists and a gradual drip feed of fresh cars since it came out in May. Unless you're hopping on for regular bouts of driving with mates or just dig the grind, odds are most folks will have dipped in and out over the months, possibly only returning when a new season adds the likes of a drift attack mode to the open world. Horizon 6's first major DLC's likely to change that at least for a little while, and Playground Games have now revealed it'll be arriving in January. Read more

Timeloop metroidvania Echo Weaver is the brave game that locks almost nothing off and challenges you to break it

Rock Paper Shotgun

Writing about new 2D timeloop metroidvania Echo Weaver is tricky because most - possibly all - of what you need to complete it is available to you the very second you first wake up, deep in the charnelpools of an ethereal and shattered lunar civilisation. The plot in brief: you are a perpetually rewinding robot boy on a mission to work out what the hell happened. You'll explore overgrown biomes, investigate busted machines, run errands for a handful of scrappy, splashy-hued aliens, and conjure holographic flashbacks that cover the circumstances of your own creation. Developers Moonlight Kids stress that the only thing you really gain in the course of all this is knowledge. There are a few upgrades to gather, but no core skills to unlock. Instead, it's all there for you to learn, whether by reaching a tutorial area or just by hitting buttons at random and messing with terrain fixtures. As such, my telling you about abilities really does risk ruining it, much like explaining the behaviour of celestial bodies in Echo Weaver's great influence, Outer Wilds. So if you're strongly inclined to buy the game – my verdict after four hours: a vivid and thoughtful, freeform Metroidy puzzler with refreshingly minimal combat and a few rough edges - maybe get your feet wet before reading on.
