Performance question about Elden Ring in 2026

So, with the upcoming Steam Autumn Sale, (october 1st) Ive been eyeing a few games, Elden Ring being one of them. I've never seriously played a Souls game before but I really like the setting and world of Elden Ring, I like that it's open-world rather than linear. (like other souls games) I'm not a stranger to difficult games, but I will admit that most of my gaming experience is with strategy games, and I haven't played many action-based games in quite a while. Anyway, Im curious about... Read more

Recomps and Decomps have taken over Retro Gaming... (Modern Vintage Gamer)

View: https://youtu.be/mYZPHdKKMaI?si=oS74Td-5G8QWh64i There has been a major shift in how we play retro games that's happening right before our eyes. Traditionally to play old retro games we would use emulation, but in recent times technology has advanced and thanks to Agentic AI it's possible to very quickly port games to the PC using technique known as recompilation - translating machine code directly into a modern language (like C) using automated tools. I wish more devs would use the pre-load update feature on console

The Witcher 3 Remastered is launching soon and giving that's going to be a patch to the next gen version on console and not a different SKU, I think it's quite interesting that barely any dev use the preload patch feature. It would have been pretty nice to pre download the patch a couple of days ago before release. Basically in PS and I believe Xbox as well but I'm not sure, you can pre download a game and a patch days before the actual release. DICE/BF Studios have been one of the few that... Read more

FF7: Shinra Archeology Mod - An amazing retranslation the game always deserved

I replayed FF7 through this mod, which I knew were from people I consider to be legit in their understanding and appreciation of FF7. Remember in the like 2010-2015 era when everyone was insufferable about making games seem like a “mature” hobby?

I know, I know. "Remember when?" is the lowest form of conversation. But yeah. I was just thinking about this earlier. I remember games discussion just being so shitty (how things have changed, am I right?) with a large part of that conversation being about how games should move away from being, you know, games and become something like artsy emotional experiences instead. I remember there even being a while where boss fights were almost viewed as a childish and outdated concept. I... Read more

Let's Talk About Open World Design of Rockstar Games

Ever since GTA III launched in 2001 Rockstar kinda did open world differently form other companies. Are there games out there that combines a deck of UNO cards into the rules of play with decent gameplay balance?

It has to be a deck of UNO cards. Can't be having extra cards mixed into the deck. But can have cards be removed from the standard UNO deck for the sake of game balance. I was inspired by the fact that maybe we need a bit of chaos in our lives when we combine the deck with your usual turn-based tabletop board games, like chinese checkers, go, shogi, or chess. For players who played both Crimson Desert and Dragon's Dogma 2 - which one do you prefer and why?

With the upcoming DLC for both these behemoth sandbox action-adventures in mind, looking back on them now Crimson Desert edges out Dragon's Dogma 2 for me, particularly when it comes to the world, exploration, and combat. DD2 has a genuinely fun combat system, but the very limited enemy variety made it feel repetitive pretty quickly, and the repetition in its biomes also made exploration lose its appeal. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has a pretty major bug on Switch 2!

So I bought the game yesterday and was pretty shocked when I saw the image quality... It was SO oversharpened! I checked my TV settings but they were the same as always. The image looked like Xenoblade 2 on Switch 1 in portable mode. Like a 480p image with 100% sharpness applied. Then I changed the sharpness value in the game settings to some random value and back to 0 and wow... It looked so much better and really good. But everytime a restart the game this bug is coming back. Can someone... Read more

"Iterative" Really is Such a Reductive Term for Sequels That Minimizes the Work That Goes Into Them

We know this shit is hard. It's fine to not like a sequel, I don't like plenty, but why do we frame iterative sequels like most the base work was already done and all the devs have to do is just recolor and reshape assets or sprinkle in trees if they're adding more stuff to previously used locations. Hades II still took 4-5 years to make and that was the development that wasn't interrupted by COVID. Engines change, processes change, you're bringing on new people. Shoutout to the GOAT... So I just beat LOTR Shadow of Mordor at the start of the month and got reminded of how much I love a good stealth takedown loop(but hate weak basic combo counter combat tho. Fine with sniping tho, that's fun). As a result I've been craving a game with a good stealth takedown system and I know that's one of Assassin Creed's claims to fame, so I figured I'd ask about what's the one with the best loop available on switch, especially since most of them are on sale right now on switch as well(new... [Insider Gaming] How Ubisoft and Nintendo’s Partnership Ended With a Canceled Zelda Title

It's late 2022, and Mario and Rabbids Sparks of Hope has just been released to generally favorable reviews on Metacritic. Sales aren't the best, but both Ubisoft and Nintendo were pleased with the game's reception and long-term sales potential. Discussions between Nintendo and Ubisoft Milan about their next collaboration began soon after, according to sources familiar with the discussions. This time, however, Milan's ambitions extended beyond just a third Mario + Rabbids game. Fast... Click to expand... Click to shrink... Read more

Do DIY desktop PC's have a bright future?

I know everything is getting more expensive. Will this affect the future of DIY desktop PCs? And if it is, what is the future for local devices. And no, I'm not thinking about cloud gaming. Moving hardware to a warehouse next to you doesn't make it possible to run as a budget option. We're already seen Boosteroid increasing their prices, xCloud getting a 15 hour limit, and GFN getting a 100 hour limit.

Do you remember the NFL Gameday series on the PS1?

I got into this series because it was promoted on the Sony demo discs. PlayStation underground? One of favorite aspects was the camera placement. It was pretty close up behind the qb. And the running game was super fun. Running backs had great evasive moves to break tackles. The passing game was also fun. I playing defense was solid. What a fun game. I was partial to 98. Silent Hill 2 songs: Theme of Laura, Promise, and Love Psalm. Original or Remake's versions?

IMO the originals I think fit the vibe better, but the new ones are good, upbeat versions. Love Psalm also has a third version from Shattered Memories that's much more rock and has lyrics. Anyways, anyone prefer the Remake versions? Think the remake versions fit the games story vibe better? Yes the whole Remake soundtrack has updated versions of it's songs but those 3 are like the important ones. IMO
