New Final Fantasy 11 Classic Era Private Server launching Sep. 24th and I'm Conflicted

So there's this new Final Fantasy 11 Classic Era Private Server I've been following for a bit, Phoenix-XI. It's launching on September 24. Do you think Donkey Kong Country is a dead franchise?

I desperately want another Retro DKC, but with them supposedly being set up for Prime 5 (yuck) and DK going back to 3D with EPD, I don't have high hopes. Tropical Freeze is my favorite 2D platformer of all time. Still, 2D DK sells fairly well and certainly above many ongoing franchises, so my guess is they move it to another studio but ditch the DKC moniker.

How is your Switch holding up?

Despite owning a switch 2, I'm still playing the original every now and then, especially on the smaller titles, or when I want a smaller form factor. I saw my switch case was looking warped, and it's had a crack or two from an unfortunate drop. So I went and bought a new case, and battery in case the internal battery was inflating. I installed the back case fine, but saw my battery seemed fine once opened up, so I didn't bother replacing that just yet. But since I've had the thing since... Read more

Is it just me or does Path of Exile 2 have the most obscene RPG character progression/gearing there is?

I don't just mean the sphere grid with the ten thousand different upgrade nodes. Just gearing in general is unlike anything I've ever played in an RPG. It is fucking incomprehensible . Comparing two different pieces of gear, both with like 6 different statistical perks on them, may as well be like looking at two road signs written in a fucking alien language. Any given piece of dropped gear, unless it's orange, feels inherently worthless because the actual value of an item seems... Read more

Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s combat is absolutely incredible and the newest “all-timer” battle system

Sorry if this is better left in the OT, but I honestly think the combat is so good it deserves its own thread. I'm not great with words, but everything (besides trash mobs aggression) about this combat is sublime. You have several options to engage with from perfect dodges, parries, to Issen, which is a dodge and counter that happens when you press attack right before getting hit that does massive damage. All of these things help you build gagues which then allow you to do even more cool... Read more

Steam Frame Review Thread

There's a decent amount available now so figured a single thread was necessary to discuss them all. IGN - 7/10 The Steam Frame is probably one of the first VR headsets that can do everything right out of the box, from standalone gaming to streaming 2D games from your PC. But the high price, short battery life and some software glitches stop it from dethroning the much-cheaper Meta Quest 3. Click to expand... Click to shrink... The Verge - 5/10 ... Read more

PSOReBorn - Play PSO for free on your browser?!

My brother earlier today sent me a text that had a link to play a browser-based version of PSO ! We're both diehard fans of PSO since playing the Dreamcast original, so it was quite a treat to see this game running on my IPhone Safari browser. It seems to have been built from scratch and supports both online and offline play. There are built-in touch controls for phones as well as gamepad support. Which fandom is most cateredto/spoiled with new content, releases, etc.

After seeing director Zach Cregger face vitriol from Biohazard-/Resident Evil-hood(BREh) fans over his movie's innaccuracies w/r/t the games despite this being the dozenth adaptation, it made me wonder: which game series/property and/or its fandom is the most spoiled by number and budget of game releases, number and budget of game rereleases/remakes, adaptations to other medium(s), merch, and just general attention outside of those? What Movies might GTA6 be "Inspired By"? – Which 'inspos' have you seen? (Stealth Movie Recs Thread!)

It's NO secret that Rockstar's cinematic approach is well-inspired and learned by simply stealing it from those who did it best already! I kid, I kid...and I kid because I love! But it helps that they have pretty good taste. We've already seen a few instances in GTA6 trailers that look more than a little familiar. As a multilingual speaker, language options tied to the system language is awful and I wish it would go away.

First I know that overall, Era is an English speaking community so not expecting many to feel the same about this but personally, it's such an absolute pain. Just as a preface, certain games have language options in the game itself, others are linked to the system language when its booted. For example, Spider-Man on PlayStation runs on system language. The Final Fantasy VII remake series have language options in game. On the surface its not a big deal, right? Just change the system... Read more

Been on a huge Kirby kick lately - Triple Deluxe felt like a big jump up

So I've been going through pretty much every Kirby game lately. I had never had interest in Kirby, but then really enjoyed Forgotten Land and wanted to see what I've been missing. Now as I'm playing through these 2D games, I've been enjoying them quite a bit, though they definitely don't feel nearly at the same level as Forgotten Land. Steam Frame: 1.5 hour battery life on full charge (The Ars Technica Review)

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/09/steam-frame-the-ars-technica-review/ The Steam Frame's limited battery life is a much bigger issue. The headset barely manages to crawl past an hour and a half on a full charge when playing most VR titles in the graphics-maximizing "Performance" mode. The amount of first party releases Nintendo has compared to PS/Xbox is astounding

I got a Switch 2 a few months back and I've only just started to pay attention to Nintendo first party and it's ridiculous how many more first party games they put out versus the competition. Having played Requiem this one thing about it really irks me (Spoilers)

So I finished Requiem yesterday and it was super fun. But what really irked me is for a game that is meant to be the end of the Umbrella saga and has so many callbacks is how we have zero mention or appearance of Jill, Claire, or Ada. I mean Sherry is prominent and Claire was like her 2nd mom. Since Remake Leon A is canon this means for the most part Claire was the one who saved and interacted with Sherry so not even any sort of mention is bizarre as Claire would have Racoon City syndrome... Would you be happy if gaming hardware just stayed like this forever?

With hardware prices constantly going up, I've been wondering whether we actually still need new hardware. And even as a mainly PC gamer with a 5080, I have to say: this is the first generation where I feel like I could genuinely live with this level of hardware forever.
