GG Aleste 3 Mega Drive Fan Port Video Removed Following Social Media Intervention From M2 Rep

'It's an extremely difficult matter, but I'll try to find a compromise'. Back in 2020, shmup specialists M2 gathered together the titles from its long-running Aleste series and released them on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch as the succinctly titled Aleste Collection. As a special treat, M2 included a brand-new Aleste title, GG Aleste 3 , coded for Sega's handheld platform Game Gear. While no standalone or physical edition of GG Aleste 3 ever materialised, fans were able to play it directly on Game Gear hardware via the use of a ripped ROM . Back in June, mod squad Morb successfully ported the shmup sequel to the Master System. Now it seems that the holy trinity is set for completion, as Blast Processing Arcade has completed its work bringing GG Aleste 3 to the Mega Drive . Read the full article on timeextension.com

"A dried husk of a product": former Doom producer berates Microsoft for making Halo a "mid-tier" game and mourns the "financialisation" of AAA

Former Doom: The Dark Ages producer Andrew Willis has shared tuppence on the state of the blockbuster videogame trade, arguing that the biggest companies and most popular series are going through a familiar "cycle" whereby the moneyfolk finally displace the creatives, and start messing games up in the name of short-term returns. He reckons that the likes of Halo are well on their way to becoming "a dried husk of a product that everyone just now associates with like, slop". Read more

Clown Around in Mr. Do's Castle, Headed To Hamster's Arcade Archives This Week

0% Crystals 0% Crashers 100% Clowns. One of my personal favourite gaming heroes makes their grand return this week, as Universal's madcap platformer Mr. Do!'s Castle welcomes guests, new and old, to Hamster's Arcade Archives . Released to arcades in 1983, emblazoned with one of the most punctuated titles of all time, Mr. Do!'s Castle is the first sequel to Universal's original Mr. Do! , which hit the coin-op scene just a year earlier. Whereas our Clown Prince's first escapade was more of a "dig 'n' crush" affair, Mr. Do!'s Castle is a single-screen platformer - in the vein of similar titles such as Kangaroo (1982) and BurgerTime (1982). "We're trying to make it easier": Valve confirm the Steam Frame is just the start of plans to get Steam games working on compatibility-challenged ARM PCs

The Steam Frame , unfortunately RAM shortage-ravaged as it is, is unique among virtual reality headsets for its ability to run Steam games – VR or 'flat' alike – entirely on its own, internal compute hardware. It is, in effect, a SteamOS PC for your face. Yet as I waxed about in our review , this feature’s impact could extend far beyond the Frame itself, as it’s based on new compatibility tech that Valve now hope to bring to a broader range of PCs and laptops. Potentially, according to staff speaking with RPS, making bonafide gaming systems out of previously unfriendly computers. Read more

"Terrible Marketing Hid A Great Show" - First Reviews Of Paramount's Golden Axe TV Series Are In

"An entertaining and frequently funny series". Mike McMahan ( Star Trek: Lower Decks ) has tackled Sega's arcade hack-and-slash Golden Axe in TV form, and it's fair to say that the initial trailer for the series divided fans. M2 Shmup GG Aleste 3 Is Getting A Sega Mega Drive Fan-Port

Micro blaster headed to 16-bit big brother.

Tim Willits doesn't think Rideshare's generative AI is damaging Saber's reputation

A few weeks ago, when I spoke with Tim Willits, chief creative officer at Saber Interactive, makers of games like Space Marine 2, SnowRunner , and World War Z, the company was dealing with the shitstorm that ensued from their announcement of Rideshare Stimulator. The game's basically an Uber simulator, with you driving a car around town picking up fares, but Saber drew all kinds of bad attention when a former writer on the game revealed the game featured generative AI ( something left undisclosed on the game's Steam page until recently ) and CEO Matt Karch responded by attacking the writer in statements to the press. Something he has since apologised for. So, naturally, we talked about generative AI and the reputational damage – or lack of – when getting caught out using it. Read more

Paradox's grand strategy game Afterworld hasn't got a fixed history, it changes with every playthrough

Each time you start a new campaign in Afterworld, Paradox's upcoming post-apocalyptic grand strategy game , a tiny virtual historian cracks their knuckles and gets to work writing a new 200-year history for what happened to North America in the dying days of the great war. They will decide where the great powers fired their nuclear-tipped missiles, where they released their clouds of flesh-eating nanites, where they dropped their lung-bubbling chemical weapons, and they will decide who survived and who died. These procedural changes should mean that each time you start a new game of Afterworld, the map will be dramatically different from the last. That flexibility to rewrite the surface of Afterworld is vital, game director Dan Lind tells me, "Otherwise it undermines a lot of the exploration". Read more

European Commission's proposed EU Kids Act could see online games forced to enact stricter age verification amid new rules around accounts for under 15s

The European Commission are reportedly set to propose new rules around how under 15s access the likes of social media, AI chatbots, and online video games. Dubbed the EU Kids Act, the proposed legislation in its current form demands the setting up of a tiered system governing the types of accounts children under 15 can create to access such services. Valve considered making a new VR game for the Steam Frame, before tackling the "ludicrous" task of getting Half-Life: Alyx running standalone

Valve have sometimes – if perhaps not often enough to call it a grand old tradition – massaged interest in their hardware by pairing the kit with a new game. For the Steam Deck it was Aperture Desk Job , and for 2019’s jammy sod of a VR headset, the Valve Index , it was Half-Life: Alyx , a full-length City 17 adventure that reviewer Graham (RPS in peace) called “ a masterclass of first-person shooter design .” Still, people rarely want to take the same class twice, hence why padding-compacted eyebrows have been raised by Alyx again being a tentpole of the new Steam Frame headset – this time, to showcase the game running in PC-less, standalone VR. Why not make something new, even a smaller tech demo like ADJ or the Index’s own The Lab collection of Portal-themed minigames? According to Valve staff, several of whom I spoke to prior to the Frame’s Monday night launch , there were several reasons why a return to Alyx was considered more valuable – even though a brand new VR game was, at least briefly, on the table. New Sonic Animated Series And Crazy Taxi Movie In Production At Netflix

A totally outrageous paradigm. Netflix has revealed three Sega gaming adaptations currently in production for its streaming service. But it helps that they have pretty good taste. We've already seen a few instances in GTA6 trailers that look more than a little familiar. One of the heists shows a giant safe being dragged through the streets -- something seen in Fast Five (which, if you gotta pick one Fast & Furious movie, that's a... Read more

The best Final Fantasy town theme?

Final Fantasy I - Town Final Fantasy IV - Troian Beauty Final Fantasy VI - Kids Run Through the City Final Fantasy VII - Cosmo Canyon Final Fantasy VII - Costa del Sol Final Fantasy VIII - Balamb Garden Final Fantasy VIII - Fisherman's Horizon Another random FF music thread. I picked 7 because that's the maximum amount of poll options, and this is probably my top selection of town themes from Uemtasu's wonderful body of FF work. Feel free to post anything else... As a multilingual speaker, language options tied to the system language is awful and I wish it would go away.

First I know that overall, Era is an English speaking community so not expecting many to feel the same about this but personally, it's such an absolute pain. Just as a preface, certain games have language options in the game itself, others are linked to the system language when its booted. For example, Spider-Man on PlayStation runs on system language. The Final Fantasy VII remake series have language options in game. On the surface its not a big deal, right? Just change the system... Read more

Been on a huge Kirby kick lately - Triple Deluxe felt like a big jump up

So I've been going through pretty much every Kirby game lately. I had never had interest in Kirby, but then really enjoyed Forgotten Land and wanted to see what I've been missing. Now as I'm playing through these 2D games, I've been enjoying them quite a bit, though they definitely don't feel nearly at the same level as Forgotten Land. I'm mostly done with Return to Dreamland on Wii and it's a very solid game; kind of feels like a culmination/refinement of all the classic Kirby games. But... Read more

What are your favourite vintage games (September 1986 and prior)?

Because I've felt old today, I've decided to make many of you feel old today as my gift to you... Enjoy (: I have a cups of Appleade on the table along with some sandwiches, breadsticks and cheese puffs (: I know many use vibes to determine what they deem retro or vintage, but me personally I just make it easy for myself and just use the auction system, so 20 years or more to be retro (September 2006), 40 or more years to be vintage (September 1986); and 100 years or more to be an... Steam Frame: 1.5 hour battery life on full charge (The Ars Technica Review)

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/09/steam-frame-the-ars-technica-review/ The Steam Frame's limited battery life is a much bigger issue. The headset barely manages to crawl past an hour and a half on a full charge when playing most VR titles in the graphics-maximizing "Performance" mode. Much of that quick battery drain no doubt comes from the unit's hefty internal fan, which tends toward blowing a constant stream of hot air up and away from your forehead and which causes a...
