Poll: 10 Years Later, Is Persona 5 a True JRPG Masterpiece?

Take your heart. 10 years ago tomorrow (technically today in Japan), on the 15th September 2016, Persona 5 was first unleashed upon the world. At the time, I don't think anyone quite knew how big of an impact the game would have. Persona 3 and Persona 4 had propelled Atlus' series beyond its Shin Megami Tensei niche, but their successor would go on to make Persona a broadly recognised brand. "We track every server you enter": the Wardogs devs are "coming down hard" on XP farms and cash exploits, even as they encourage people to grind

The creators of military shooter Wardogs have announced that they will crack down heavily on players who use exploits and bugs to speedily farm in-game currency and XP, or who spend “more than a few minutes” in servers created for this purpose. Given that Wardogs advertises itself as a shooter about getting rich – a game in which "cash is king", with individualised payouts for a bunch of different in-game actions - I do feel like Bulkhead are sending mixed messages, even by the standards of incoherent wargames. Trying to define 'fairly earned' in a game that encourages you to be a frenzied, gun-toting plutomaniac is surely plunging headfirst into farce. Mind you, I respect the desire to Maintain The Fun for players who aren't quite as dollar-driven, and avoid having a community browser slammed with servers called "[EU/DOGF$RM]" or similar. Rayman Legends Retold Now Out in December, PS5 Remake Delayed Two Months

More polish and shining from Ubisoft needed. Ubisoft has decided to push back its PS5 remake of Rayman Legends so it can receive extra polish, despite the fact the game has already gone gold. A delay after going gold is a rarity; the only other time I can remember it happening was in the leadup to Cyberpunk 2077 . I'm sure Rayman Legends Retold will release in better shape than that, though. Read the full article on pushsquare.com

Valve decided that cutting the Steam Frame’s specs to avoid price rises wasn't "the right product choice" for the VR headset

Surprising no-one, Valve’s Steam Frame VR headset is launching with higher-than-expected prices , following the Steam Machine in having its budget-friendly intentions foiled by the memory shortage misery of RAMnarök. The lack of affordable PC parts - which as a fully standalone-capable VR kit, the Steam Frame is as vulnerable to as any laptop or desktop - continues to have wide-ranging, usually shitty impacts on hardware manufacturing and even game development . Besides simply raising prices, some kit makers are reverting to lower-RAM models to keep costs down, or going DRAMless altogether. Valve, however, have told RPS that there was never a question of cutting the Frame’s specs, even as the worldwide component crisis took hold. Read more

PS5 Blackout Protest Made 'No Significant Change at All' to Player Counts, Says US Data

The state of play. The recent PS5 blackout campaign, which made waves on social media a few weeks back, appears to have had very little impact on the console's usage rate — at least in the US. This is according to ever-informative Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, who writes that "there was no significant change at all in player count or engagement" during the blackout period. You can now reserve a Steam Frame, plus a third-party camera from Arcturus Vision

From Valve: Signups are open now for Valve's new Steam Frame, which launches today in the following options (all prices inclusive of VAT where applicable): Steam Frame 256GB: 1,059 USD / 1,529 CAD / 1,049 EUR / 889 GBP / 1,609 AUD / 4,539 PLN Steam Frame 1TB: 1,299 USD / 1,859 CAD / 1,279 EUR / 1,089 GBP / 1,969 AUD / 5,549 PLN Steam Frame, which includes Half-Life: Alyx , ships directly via Steam in the U.S., Canada, UK, EU, and Australia. Availability and pricing in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be announced by KOMODO at around 10:00 AM on the 15th JST. I reserved the 1TB version, so everyone should cross their fingers for me. There are already third-party accessories available, including a 5K passthrough camera from Arcturus Vision. I ordered that one, too. And I have to give it to them. They could just have taken my money and shipped the camera regardless of whether Valve actually lets me buy a Steam Frame. Instead, they only placed a temporary authorization on my card and reserved a camera for me: Once Valve announces the results of its reservation system, Arcturus will let me either pay for the camera and have it shipped early, or cancel the order without being charged. That's how you do it. I already love this company!

Steam Frame review: Another best-in-class VR headset by Valve, though virtual realities clash with economic ones

It’s a strange time to be selling a new VR headset, and maybe an even stranger time to be buying one. The supply of original virtual reality games has slowed to a dribble, and just as with Valve’s last hardware launch, the Steam Frame arrives covered in bumps and scrapes from a fight with the worst components shortage in memory. A fight which, judging by how it’ll cost ya £889 / $1,059 at minimum, it lost. However, something else the Frame has in common with the revamped Steam Machine is that as a piece of hardware per se , it’s really quite likeable. Charismatic, even. It’s a happy marriage of core VR capability and genuinely new engineering ideas: some simple practicality boons, some with the potential to change PC games as we know them. And not just the ones you’d play with sweaty goggles on your face. Read more

Valve’s Steam Frame VR headset opens for orders, with the cheapest model priced at a lenswatering £889 / $1,059

Valve have just launched the Steam Frame wireless VR headset, finally completing the triumvirate of new hardware – along with the new Steam Machine and Steam Controller – that they unveiled all the way back in November 2025. The review embargo has also lifted, meaning I can tell you that it’s a smart and flexible piece of virtual reality kit . Definitely the most versatile of its kind, in terms of how it lets you play games. Less triumphantly, the Frame has clearly sustained the impact of the same memory shortages and component cost explosions that jacked up the Machine’s pricing and limited its stock. Thus, despite initial plans to make the Frame cheaper than the ultra-premium Valve Index , the Steam Frame starts at £889 / $1,059 / €1,049 for the smaller 256GB model. That rises to £1,089 / $1,299 / €1,279 for the top 1TB version, with several accessory options potentially bumping out the outlay even further. Read more

Mega Man Teams Up With Pragmata Star Diana In Perhaps The Cutest Art You'll See Today

Capcom not beating the crossover allegations. Capcom lit up Monday morning with delightful artwork that sees the studio's past crossover with its future. The adorable daubings show Super Fighting Robot Mega Man teaming up with Super Hacking Robot Diana, the star of this year's smash hit Pragmata . The new artwork was released to promote an upcoming range of trinkets on the Capcom store, featuring the two blue battlers in a variety of action poses. The crossover itself references an ongoing joke where, during Pragmata's ( very) lengthy development, conspiracies circulated that it was actually a secret Mega Man game, given Pragmata's high-tech, futuristic setting and its co-protagonist Diana - an android sporting a jacket with bulbous, arm-cannon-like sleeves and a distinctly familiar shade of blue. Blizzard say Battle.net isn't looking to fight Steam and Epic for supermassive storefront supremacy, despite recently nabbing The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077

No siree. We are not trying to fight those big bosses. It's arguably a bit of a weird thing for a publisher with Diablo and World of Warcraft in their arsenal to say, but that's the stance Blizzard are sticking to with their storefront Battle.net, even though it now boasts two big CD Projekt Red RPGs. Instead of an unknowably girthy hoard of games, the publishers say Battle.net 's still designed to feel like a handpicked basket of things to play. Read more

A Second English Translation For Sega CD Shadowrun Appears, And It's Also AI-Assisted

Some three decades on from its original release, the Sega CD port of cyberpunk RPG Shadowrun has finally received a long long -awaited English translation , courtesy of homebrewer Erebus, better known in the shadows of the Megacorps as "MadMorigan." MadMorigan's new translation sees the 1996 adventure localised in English for the very first time, restoring a lost piece of Shadowrun lore to the universe's global canon. Developed by Compile, the Sega CD edition sports a sharp anime aesthetic that sets it apart from the acclaimed SNES and Sega Genesis releases - both of which feature a darker, more Americanised tech-noir tone. This week in PC games: become a magic girl in Kernel Hearts, a dog commando in Fright Train, or a capital class warship in Sublight

Happy new week all! Over the weekend I banished all thought of rocks, paper or shotguns and volunteered to pick apples at a local orchard. Many wonderful varieties were carefully netted, then jumbled together in a huge mesh bag: speckled golden sours, fit to devour immediately with an appreciative grimace; jolly green cookers, wearing their scabs like medals of honour; sharp little reds that slice up into the clearest white wedges. Such intoxicating fruit! As we blundered around with poles and hard hats, we trampled on dozens of fallen, rotting apples, spicing the air with a sickly pungence. It was then that I saw it: the juiciest apple of all, dangling almost within grabbing distance in a peculiar depth of shade, beneath a tree of somehow abyssal provenance - its leaves salt-rimed and its roots akin to sunken steel anchors. I reached and the apple danced back a metre, becoming luminous. By its light, I perceived the slow parting of enormous crystal fangs. Damn it, Maw! I am trying to pick apples in peace. It's just as well I've brought a second mesh bag of new PC games to feed you. Read more

Former Sega Champ and Tiertex tester Dan Curley tells all. The year is 1991, and I remember it like it was 35 years ago. USB port on back of PS5 Slim not charging - cause for concern?

After moving and getting some stuff set up, I am using a USB-C to USB-A cord to charge my PS5 controller. There are two slots for this and I'm realizing one of them doesn't work. The other charges just fine. Is this a common defective aspect? Could there be a risk of other ports on the console dying too? I only have one controller so I only need one port, just wondering if this could be an issue.

Interview: "If You Like What You're Doing, That Energy Comes Across To Readers" - Sonic The Comic's Lew Stringer On Badniks, Brutus, & Writing For Kids

"I’ve always written stories that I imagined I would have enjoyed at that age". In the past, I've made no secret of my love for Fleetway Edition's Sonic the Comic , the official Sonic comic that ran for nine years in the UK from 1993 to 2002. As you may already know, earlier this year, I put together a fairly lengthy article celebrating the legacy of the beloved UK comic, even getting to chat to two of the key creative figures, writer/artist Nigel Kitching and the illustrator Richard Elson. In that piece, I dove into how the editor Richard Burton was tasked with assembling a new comic based on the Sega mascot, discussed some of the more memorable story arcs, and covered its eventual downfall after the decision was made to cut back on original strips in favour of reprints. But one thing I regretted at the time was being unable to reach out to Lew Stringer, another one of my favourite writers who contributed to its pages. Read the full article on timeextension.com

Since we have had a quick look at this video, here’s what you should know (pending final confirmation of other reviewers, of course). The biggest wow effect of the Steam Frame according to LTT seems to be the elimination of the cables: “my life just went wireless”. He makes that point over and over again in this video.

Growing up in the UK, I don't necessarily have the same fuzzy memories of Nintendo Power that a lot of my North American friends do, having grown up on our own official Nintendo magazines (which originated way back in 1992 with EMAP's Nintendo Magazine System). As a kid, I probably had a vague idea of what Nintendo Power was, based on occasional references in the British games press at the time. However, it wasn't until much later, with the rise of the early video game YouTubers, that I came to understand its impact on American players and began seeking out copies myself to see what I'd missed out on, living on the other side of the Atlantic. Only then did I begin to discover some of the incredible artwork and stories in its pages, such as Benimaru Itoh's spectacular Star Fox comic, released to coincide with the promotion and launch of the original SNES game in 1993.
