Feature: Box Art Brawl - Zone Of The Enders: The Fist Of Mars (GBA)

In the zone. Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl! Last week, we looked at a curious little game for the NES called Dragon Warrior II – not sure if you've heard of it. The Sunday Papers

Sundays are for having the first lie-in in a month. No trips to visit family, no waking in unfamiliar beds, and, best of all, no having to wait until the hosts are up before you can get started on breakfast. I will be snoozing deeply in my own particular mattress before having a plate of toast and scrambled eggs at a time that I deem appropriate. Once that's all polished away, I will return to bed with a fresh cup of coffee and peruse the week's best writing at my own leisure. What's that? You want me to share? Fine. You can have a read of them when I'm done. Read more

Game Changer: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge - Where My Love For Konami's Legendary Series Began

You've got to start somewhere. A couple of years ago, I penned a feature for this very site which explored the idea that playing video games – like any other formative memory – can be linked to physical locations. For example, you might fondly remember a certain town because it's where you bought a favourite game; that's happened to me many times in my life. In the case of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, this memory is even more potent because the game also represented my first exposure to a series which is now my all-time favourite in the pantheon of interactive entertainment. Here's What Might Be Leaving Xbox Game Pass In November 2026

Some early predictions! What's leaving Xbox Game Pass in November 2026? Well, Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything just yet, but based on some games that were added to the service this time last year, we can at least make a few predictions ahead of time. We know that a lot of Xbox users want more advance notice of games leaving Xbox Game Pass, but Microsoft usually gives us around two weeks right now - and don't forget, publishers sometimes secure late deals with Microsoft to keep their games on Game Pass, even after they've been announced to be leaving! The Master System's Popularity In The UK Is Still Surprising Some People

Sega's 8-bit system outsold some pretty big names in the United Kingdom. In North America and Japan, the Sega Master System is little more than a footnote. Those two significant markets were dominated by the NES / Famicom, with Nintendo effectively locking out competition via some rather nefarious business practices – and its own library of genre-defining first-party releases, of course. Over in the United Kingdom, however, it was a very different story. Home computers like the ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, and Commodore Amiga were the main way to play games for most of the 1980s, and Nintendo didn't put much effort into distributing the NES in the region. Instead, it seemed quite happy to allow Sega – via its distribution partner, Virgin – to steal a march. Read the full article on timeextension.com

Review: Grant Sinclair's GamerCard – Shares Some Of Sir Clive's DNA, But This Is No ZX Spectrum-Style Triumph

Thin as a deck of cards, but more like the Joker than the Ace. I’m not going to bury the lede in this review. Playing games on the GamerCard (£149) is mostly a miserable experience. The Other One: Jordan Magnuson's Game Poem jam is a fascinating collection of chimeras

Sometimes I Wonder About The Other Me is a 2D platformer created by "small game" developer Luis "Ludipe" D az Peralta, whose other works include A Place For The Unwilling. It's broken into a handful of single screen maps. On each screen, there's a Mario-brand exclamation mark block that burps a text fragment, forming an overarching monologue that begins with the title phrase. As you move between screens, you come to a signpost pointing left and right. Heading in either direction leads to a splitscreen area, with the player controlling duplicate characters. As you guide your charges rightward, one half of the screen flakes away to darkness. The remaining character returns to the starting screen, there to wonder anew about the Other Me. Read more

Combatting Wallhacks with Server Culling | Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYN3MPRuznU CoD has tried so many things over the years to combat this stuff and it always seems like it works for a moment but then the hackers figure out a workaround, but this is new. Granted, other games might have done this already, but I can't say I am familiar. The fact that the Ocluder is something actually in the map's walls itself and not just a server side thing would seemingly help this against hackers, right? Cause then the hackers would... Read more

Desktop and handheld prices going out of control means PC bargain hunts lead to my old enemy: gaming laptops

I don’t know if memory shortages have permanently killed off the concept of 'cheap' gaming PCs, but they have at least beat it into a coma. On the desktop side, inflated RAM, SSDs and graphics card prices continue to inflict karmic pain for our years of "It's cheaper to build it yourself" smugness, while formerly affordable handheld PCs are either suffering 40%-plus jackups or launching above £1K from the off. And the Steam Machine ! The poor, square Steam Machine . Every few weeks, possibly in denial, I’ll skim through the shops to see what budget games kit actually looks like in this day and age. Across the last five or six rounds, little has changed: the entry point into decent, more-or-less current-spec 1080p play remains stuck in the low quadruple figures, particularly if you’re fully new to PC ownership and need to factor in a monitor and peripherals. There is one exception, assuming you don’t fancy your luck on the secondhand market , but giving it a hands-on appraisal means confronting an ancient hardware foe of mine. And you all know how little I like to have my prejudices challenged. Still, research suggests that yes, this truly is the most gaming PC you can get for under £999. So, um. Here it goes. May...maybe gaming laptops aren’t so bad. Read more

Taito's Nonsense Platformer Chack'n Pop Stretches Its Legs On The Console Archives

Long Fellow. How's the weather up there? Hamster's Console Archives develops a head for heights this week, adding the Famicom port of Taito's bizarrely titled (and even more bizarrely executed) platformer, Chack'n Pop . Chack'n Pop arrived in arcades in 1984 and was ported to a variety of Japanese platforms, including the MSX, FM-7, and NEC line, not to mention consoles Famicom and SG-1000. Taito's early platform is a mixed bag of ideas, as though the developer knew they were making "A Game", and were putting the pieces together, hoping it would eventually take form and then tell them how to play it. Players guide the titular "Chack'n", a yellow... guy with extendable legs, through a series of mazes, dodging hazards and attempting to free caged hearts (yeah, why not?) scattered within each maze. Doing so unleashes an army of (suspiciously familiar) monsters, who Chack'n must dodge on their way to the exit at the top of the screen. Read the full article on timeextension.com

Roblox should be illegal - it should be made to change or legislated out of existence

This isn't another thread about the dangerous weirdos and paedophiles who might use it.. that's a whole other issue. I've had my first real long-form experience with this game recently via my kids - and after a couple of weeks of tolerating it, I've decided to ban it from my home. This game is not so much a game as an exploitative UGC market with UI patterns and practices explicitly designed to enrich its content creators -- by allowing them the means to frequently and easily steal... QSSR, a performance tier of PSSR, is being added to ALL PS5 systems (Yotei and Wolverine getting QSSR support today, available to all developers)

Since the launch of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on PS5 Pro, players and developers have asked whether similar image-quality improvements could be brought to the PS5 console. PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to PS5 impossible. Today, we're excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new... Read more

It's the seventh game in Banpresto's Compati Hero series, which blends together various properties that Bandai has the license to---mainly Gundam, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider. The Dynamic Pro, Super Sentai, Godzilla, and Metal Heroes appear in a few games, but "the Divine Three" are the main draw and are the most frequent headliners! Palmer Luckey's legacy in gaming is dead

I'd tag this as politics if you could do this in gaming side, so sorry that you've got to see one of these threads over here. But this caught me off guard so I felt the urge to post it somewhere. So, the Trump administration announced some military think tank / money laundering scheme with Elon Musk, Newt Gingrich, and Palmer Luckey. I'm not really posting this thread about that, though. What took me by surprise, though, is that this news led to Palmer Luckey being mentioned on by the late... Read more

"Our Resources Are Limited" - Sonic Boss Would Rather Focus On New Games Over Remasters Or Remakes

Gotta go forward. A lot of Sonic fans are eager to see the likes of Sonic Adventure make a return as a remake or remaster – for some reason. Yet according to a new interview with Automaton, Sonic boss Takashi Iizuka seems keen to focus on new games over remasters or remakes. Essentially, he states that the team's resources are limited, so rather than use such resources recreating an existing game, he would rather produce something completely new. Eight Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass In Early October 2026

Here's what's leaving soon. Microsoft has revealed the next eight games leaving Xbox Game Pass in early October 2026, with all of these being highlighted as "leaving soon" on the official Xbox phone app. It's a particularly painful one this month. Our early predictions were pretty accurate, if you ask me. We got four games spot on with Donut County, Evil West, The Casting of Frank Stone, and Pacific Drive all on the chopping block this October, but including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is tres merde. PUBG extraction shooter Black Budget canned less than a year from reveal, after Krafton decide it won't "deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term"

PUBG: Black Budget , an extraction shooter spin-off of Krafton's battle royale, has been cancelled after just under a year of closed alpha testing. Krafton cited a lack of faith that Black Budget's "current direction" would lead to "an experience players could enjoy over the long term" as the reasoning behind their call to end development. If game developers steal one thing from No Law, I hope it's the open-world game's ridiculously detailed and realistic corner shops

After seeing open-world imm-sim No Law last month, I'm sure the developers would hope I was gripped by memories of missions you can approach stealthily or in all-out action , the sci-fi combat where you wield slow-time grenades and cyberpunk implants, or even the powerful kick you can use to boot open locked doors. But, no, what I keep thinking about is the corner shop where protagonist Grey Harker, an ex-soldier on a murderous rampage to take down Port Desire's four corrupt mayors, stopped to pick up some batteries. In this thread, we post utterly odd brand tie-in games. Like a game based off a dog food ad.

It's a quiet type of night. The type of night where you search up random games on GameFAQs based off a theme. Like food and snacks, for instance. Games based off of various foods and snacks are common, mind you. The Burger King 360 games, Chex Quest, M and M's Kart Racing are some examples. Yet even with all those examples, I think I found the biggest "why" in retro gaming, in terms of brand tie ins. ...this exsists. This is... Read more

Spooky Games in October! What's Your Pick?

Capcom Admits It's Been A "Painstaking" Process Porting Monster Hunter Wilds To Switch 2

These troubles haven't stopped Capcom from bringing the game to Switch 2, and to get the latest entry running "without compromising the experience of Monster Hunter Wilds", the team had to make decisions "one by one" during the port's development.
