In this thread, we post utterly odd brand tie-in games. Like a game based off a dog food ad.

It's a quiet type of night. The type of night where you search up random games on GameFAQs based off a theme. Like food and snacks, for instance. Games based off of various foods and snacks are common, mind you. The Burger King 360 games, Chex Quest, M and M's Kart Racing are some examples. Yet even with all those examples, I think I found the biggest "why" in retro gaming, in terms of brand tie ins. ...this exsists. This is... Read more

Spooky Games in October! What's Your Pick?

I spent years telling myself that I would try to play more spooky games in October, and I've been getting better at following through on that. Curious what everyone's picks are, or if you even bother going thematic with your gaming choices this time of year. Maybe there's something you replay every October? I personally have decided to boot up Urban Myth Dissolution Center on my Switch Lite. Kind of in the mood for a visual novel, and I love the diet-spooky vibes of this game so far. Was... Read more

Capcom Admits It's Been A "Painstaking" Process Porting Monster Hunter Wilds To Switch 2

The team made decisions and optimisations "one by one". If you've experienced Monster Hunter Wilds on other platforms, especially during its launch window, you might already be aware of the game's technical woes. These troubles haven't stopped Capcom from bringing the game to Switch 2, and to get the latest entry running "without compromising the experience of Monster Hunter Wilds", the team had to make decisions "one by one" during the port's development. PS5's New QSSR AI Upscaling Tech Should Make For Some Interesting Xbox Comparisons

And it may indicate where Xbox is heading in the future as well. As you may have seen over at our sister site Push Square today, Sony has announced that AI upscaling is coming to the base PS5 in the form of something called QSSR, which is very similar to the PSSR upscaling on the PS5 Pro. In a nutshell, the idea here is that QSSR analyses game images on a pixel-by-pixel basis, and then applies AI upscaling to essentially add clarity to details that would otherwise look more blurry. You can see an example of this from Ghost of Yotei up above, which is one of two games that the tech is debuting for (the other being Marvel's Wolverine). Read the full article on purexbox.com

RetroSpace offers a huge sci-fi playground for inquisitive space janitors, but I'm not that System Shocked by the tools at your disposal

In my time as a videogame partaker, I have crawled through approximately three billion airvents. I may well have crawled through more vents than you've had hot dinners. As such, any videogame that can get me excited about loosening a barred hatch and hauling my heavy ass into a square tunnel is doing something right. The Wild Gentlemen's new sci-fi immersive sim RetroSpace gives pretty fair vent. It hides them all over. You'll walk along a dilapidated, meandering corridor and your eye will be caught by a certain combination of shadows, flirtatiously screened by pipes. 'Can I fit behind there?' You ask yourself, and lo, you have revealed a shortcut to the head engineer's office. Elsewhere, switches peek from behind stacks of luggable crates, and bent guard-rails draw your eye to a footwide ledge leading around the next pillar. In general, RetroSpace does a nice job of squirrelling secrets into even the smallest chambers, and if the secret is very often a "rocket doughnut" or other inventory-clogging flotsam, sensing the prize and snuffling after it is a thrill. I hope the thrill will intensify as RetroSpace goes on, perhaps leaving a few of its obvious influences behind. Read more

Sega's Classic Arcade Daytona USA Comes To PC In AI-Assisted Non-Emulator Fan Port

Update: Developer has tried to hide the use of Claude in this project. More news for fans of Sega's legendary arcade racers, as homebrewer alphanu1 has coded a PC port of crowd-pleasing IndyCar title Daytona USA , originally released in 1994. If alphanu1's name rings a bell, then that's probably because they were featured recently on Time Extension for creating a new FPGA Model 1 core - best utilised in another classic Sega arcade, Virtua Racing . The new port works by recompiling the code of the Daytona USA Deluxe '93 ROM into C++, allowing the game to run natively on Windows without the need for an emulator. Gears Of War: E-Day Comparison Shows Difference Between Xbox Series X And Series S

How the Xbox versions stack up. Here we go! With the review embargo now having lifted for Gears of War: E-Day, that means we've also finally got some raw gameplay footage of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of the game. This is coming via numerous sources, including Digital Foundry who have shared their "big tech deep dive" for Gears: E-Day. In a nutshell, they say that it "serves as a landmark showcase for Unreal Engine 5's expanding capabilities", highlighting it as "one of the best-looking Unreal titles ever" despite some occasionally "rocky" performance. I'm not sure the "AI" in my chair's lumbar support actually counts as AI, but it has been smart enough to help my posture

Note from James, 02/10: We've heard your complaints that some of the wording in this piece - a lot of which, if I'm honest, was added/changed by me in the edit - overstates the chair's potential health benefits. The HBADA’s X7 chair may reduce back pain during long periods of sitting at your desk but it will not literally fix your spine. While it is and will remain the RPS way to indulge in some occasional hyperbole, we don't want to suggest that swivel chairs cure physical conditions, so I've clarified these bits to avoid confusion. AI is everywhere, exhausting to keep up with, and increasingly perceived as harmful to games. But that’s mostly generative AI; the more limited, less media-scraping and energy-hungry breeds of artificial intelligence can still play a harmless, maybe even useful role, especially on the hardware side . Even if it finds itself in some unexpected places, as is the case with HBADA’s X7 chair . While AI-powered lumbar support sounds like the kind of gimmicky nonsense that’s become all too common in 2026, I’ve been using an X7 for a week, and it’s... surprisingly effective? Definitely for straightening up my posture, which I'm hopeful will help with my recurring back pain issues. It’s been a very pleasant surprise. Read more

Capcom Has a Plan for When There's No Old Resident Evils Left to Remake

Working towards a "crossover" in the future. Capcom's own Resident Evil remake initiative is proving so successful that it will one day run out of mainline games to actually modernise, but the developer has been planning for that possibility all along. With two "tracks", as producer Jun Takeuchi puts it, through the Resident Evil series — the remakes and the brand new titles — Capcom has been anticipating a "crossover" between the tracks. "Someday, the remake series will catch up with the era of the numbered titles, and we are already thinking about what we will do when that happens," he then continued. The shop shows an estimated production time based on our current backlog before you place your order. I ordered some instantly, as this seems the best place in Europe to get prescription inserts for the Steam Frame. I usually don't wear glasses, because I only have a mild astigmatism in my left eye. Normally, the right one compensates well enough, but in VR the blur becomes much more obvious. Also, they will protect the lenses from my way-too-long eyelashes. I paid €86 including shipping.

Review: Gears Of War: E-Day (Campaign) - A Monumental Triumph For Xbox, And My Game Of The Year

E-Day exceeded expectations and made me fall in love with the series even more. Note: The following is a review for Gears of War: E-Day based on the campaign ONLY. We'll share our thoughts on multiplayer at a later date, as it wasn't made available during the pre-release period. Gears of War: E-Day is the consequence of a studio that irrefutably gets what makes these games so special. The Coalition isn’t just delivering a world-class campaign, it’s raising the bar for Gears’ combat, pushing cinematic storytelling forward, and straight-up f***ing killing it. Capcom aren't just running out of Resident Evil games to remake - they're banking on it, with a mysterious "crossover" planned when the timelines collide

Capcom have done a brisk trade in Resident Evil remakes this past decade. They've gone back to formula with Resident Evil 2 , Resident Evil 3 , and Resident Evil 4 , not just bumping up the resolution and revarnishing the cutscenes, but writing new variations on the old survival horror fables. There's a Resident Evil: Code Veronica regurgitation due in 2027, and a Resident Evil 0 resurrection allegedly to follow in 2028 . The problems with this strategy are perhaps expressed by my previous sentence's struggle to come up with extra synonyms for "remake": sooner or later, Capcom are going to run out of original games they can credibly overhaul. Including the forthcoming or rumoured projects, they've only got Resident Evils 5 and 6 left now before they hit the "modern era" inaugurated by Resident Evil 7, the game that introduced the fancy RE Engine used by the remakes. The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past's setting "felt like a really natural way to go", CD Projekt Red story director says, while parrying my attempts to breach the DLC's guard

Ever since The Witcher 3 's decade-on expansion Songs of the Past was revealed not to be a windup nor a case of empthy rumourmongering, I've been eating up as many details about its story as CD Projekt Red have offered. The truth is that, outside of showing off the setting and a few of the characters Gerry'll chat to, they've kept their lips pretty tight. On one hand, I get wanting to keep narrative surprises intact, but on the other, it'd be nice to see the studio be less vague about this extra chapter of a story folks assumed they'd already seen through to a satisfying end a decade ago. So, in addition to scouring other interviews about the DLC, I flung my own questions at CD Projekt Red story director Marcin Blacha, who worked in that role and as a lead writer on TW3 back in the day. "I would speculate that this is for Project Helix". Take-Two has signed a new deal with Xbox. Great! But what does it actually mean, and is it even a newsworthy development at all? That's been the big debate on social media since the news first dropped last night. "We want people to try and outsmart the game": No Law aims for Arkane-style reactivity within a dangerous walled city

Port Desire, the hemmed-in city setting of immersive sim No Law, is hard to place. At points, it reminds me of walking around Lisbon. It shares that Portuguese city's verticality, where hill-straddling streets shouldered by colourful houses and corner shops can feel like tiers on a wedding cake. The strong sunlight and bursts of foliage reinforce the mediterranean vibes. Yet, the port city's structure and history is much closer to Kowloon Walled City, the ungoverned Chinese enclave that existed within British-owned Hong Kong. Through the 1900s, with the British government taking a hands-off policy to the tiny district and the Chinese government exercising no control over its citizens, Kowloon became the most densely populated city on earth, with 33,000 citizens living in just 2.6-hectare borders. With virtually no official police presence, the city attracted anyone looking for a less-observed, less-regulated life – gangs, refugees, and a surprising number of unlicensed dentists. As one of No Law's creative directors, Tor Frick, tells it, Port Desire is very similar. Not specifically the dentists bit, more the general, isolated lawlessness. Read more

WoW Forever: Which faction will you be choosing and why?

I'm new to WoW, wanted to roll a Skyborne and chose Horde (to avoid some cockroaches), but I decided to make a Night Elf just to see how it was, and I immediately love their starting zone far more. So my question for you all is, which faction and why? Does it really even matter outside of the race/class selections? Also if you have any tips for a new WoW player please feel free. Edit: yeah I'm located in NA

PSA: The PS3 Plays PS1 Games (aka I’m a fool - point and laugh at me)

Don't be like me, Era. Don't own a PS3 Slim for 16 years and ONLY NOW REALISE that the fucking thing plays PS1 games right out the box. I just plugged my Slim back in after being out of commission for a few months, and on a complete whim decided to pop the copy of DOOM PS1 I purchased recently to see what would happen and… it fucking worked! I'm honestly kinda ecstatic. It's a trip on a 65 inch OLED G4 but it sure as hell works. I guess I somehow just conflated after all this time that it... Read more

Should I play Xenoblade X on the Switch or wait until I get a Switch 2?

I have an unopened copy on my shelf that I got when the Switch version came out that I never got around to playing. I have a bit of time this month to play a meaty rpg so I was thinking of just finally playing it. I do plan on getting a Switch 2 eventually, probably sometime next year, so I'm wondering if the upgrades are worth me just waiting to play it on the Switch 2, or if I should just dive in right now?

Nintendo Online Console App UI.... Why

Everything else is so sleek, so why does it look so bad man. Did the UI designers go home for the day ? Did they forget the css files on their other machine ? What's going on here. Are we all part of some weird experiment where they are laughing at us at Nintendo HQ? Big image first that doesn't align with anything and then rows of 3 images. It's barely legible.

Why do you pre-order a Digital Game as soon as it becomes available?

This is not a "You shouldn't do that thread", it's just a curiosity. For physical, Pre-ordering made sense. it's a tangible item with only a finite amount. So it was possible to miss out on titles or have trouble finding them if you didn't pre-order (Hell, we're seeing that again now with various titles shipping with limited first-print runs). With Digital on the other hand, they're never going to run out... Read more

do you prefer encounters that lock you in a small arena space until they're over or do you like more persistent enemies?

i can get with both but i very much prefer the latter there's something magical about for example playing a classic RE knowing that the zombie you dodged and avoided last time might still be there. and will be there for most of the game. that's my preferred level design, where enemies and environments interact seamlessly and with persistence up to a point

The Most "Normal" GTA by AnyAustin

View: https://youtu.be/BepltTmFgqs AnyAustin goes on another GTA roadtrip, this time on GTA 4's Liberty City, by using only the game's public transport system. He highlights one of my favorite things about that game, the NPCs and overall feeling of a living city, the vibes are immaculate. Shoutout to the GTA 4 subway system, loved using it

Do you believe Golden Sun's best game stands toe to toe with the all-time greats?

Let me preface this by saying: I bought Golden Sun for GBA at launch, loved it at the time, and have fond memories of the game. Camelot's post-Mario Tennis RPG was a graphical powerhouse, filled with beautiful sprite work and a great soundtrack, fun characters, an interesting story, and one of those classic "only-in-the-early-2000s" save transfer tools where a code at the end of the game could allow certain transferring of data to its direct sequel. I personally loved that the dungeons... Read more

Valve's Work On Foveated Rendering For The Open-Source Turnip Driver On The Steam Frame

As part of Valve's work on developing the Steam Frame VR headset, they worked on foveated rendering support for the Mesa Turnip driver that supports the Qualcomm Adreno graphics with open-source Vulkan API support. Foveated rendering is the technique to more closely mimic human vision by rendering high detail at your direct gaze point and lower quality in the peripheral vision. For computer graphics, foveated rendering for headsets can be beneficial for conserving power in areas of the render frame that are less important to provide more performance with your main area of focus...

I’m close to completing that project now, having tracked down a copy of Sakura Wars: Hanagumi Taisen Columns for the SEGA Saturn in Japan earlier in the month.
