"Iterative" Really is Such a Reductive Term for Sequels That Minimizes the Work That Goes Into Them

We know this shit is hard. It's fine to not like a sequel, I don't like plenty, but why do we frame iterative sequels like most the base work was already done and all the devs have to do is just recolor and reshape assets or sprinkle in trees if they're adding more stuff to previously used locations. Hades II still took 4-5 years to make and that was the development that wasn't interrupted by COVID. Engines change, processes change, you're bringing on new people. Shoutout to the GOAT... In Retrospect What Do You Think About GTA V's Protagonists.

Now that we know a little about Jason and Lucia how do we feel about Michael, Franklin, Trevor. I personally felt that three characters was a tad too much for the story they told and that two would have been better. Franklin needed more development. Trevor's act gets old kinds quick. Michael is fine I guess. I like the emphasis on the heists but mostly the story just focused on being the FIB's dog.

Why are Steam forums still around?

Every time I dare to venture in there for maybe a game related issue, it always feels like the worst of humanity is collected in one place. Even comments on YouTube and PornHub seem tame by comparison. Sometimes I do see the devs engaging on them, which is great, but then you'll also get a response in the same thread complaining about how the game may include DEI or LGBTQ agendas. I can't quite put my finger on why Wind Wakers dungeons are so disappointing

I love Wind Waker and despite thinking it is the weakest 3D Zelda, it is still better than so many other games out there. One of the most criticised aspects of Wind Waker has been its somewhat mediocre lineup of dungeons compared to other games in the series. I feel like this deserves its own thread, because when skimming through the OT for Onimusha: Way of the Sword it becomes abundantly clear to me that nearly everyone thinks that the game would've been significantly better overall if it had all of the open-world Kyoto stuff stripped out completely. Steam Beta Client Update: September 25th

We have just shipped an updated Steam Client to the Preview/Beta channel. General: Fixed the Recordings & Screenshots dialog not showing all games that have related screenshots in the game filter dropdown. Improved the text layout in achievement notifications when the name, description or both wrap across multiple lines. Fix some cases of header/footer flicker and invisibility during the first seconds after waking from sleep. When waking from sleep with a game running but the account now playing elsewhere: Provide an option to exit the local game. Go back to sleep if there is no input for 60 seconds. Fixed issues with trackpad typing if the trackpad is touched while the onscreen keyboard is opening Steam Input: Improved the consistency of trackpad sensitivity between Steam Deck and Steam Controller Fixed cases where the Virtual menu modes could show the wrong activation type if it was created in the standalone menu vs from a controller source Implemented a version of the "Reorder Controller" dialog for Steam Input API games. Note - this disconnects the controllers temporarily so older games which do not handle hot plugging properly can lose controller input Additional polish for the multibinding page In the desktop UI overlay the desktop config will now be applied. For most gamepads this will not be a difference in behavior because they have a blank desktop config, but Steam Controllers or devices that have setup a custom desktop config will have mouse input to click on things in the overlay. Remote Play: Improved color accuracy when streaming from a Windows computer Fixed the mouse cursor when streaming from Linux using the SteamRT3C client Fixed a capture lockup when streaming from pipewire on Linux and SteamOS Reduced Pyrowave latency when streaming from pipewire on Linux and SteamOS Added the -pyrowavestats command line option to log Pyrowave encoding performance SteamRT3 Experimental Beta Fixed Steam overwriting PATH, LD_PRELOAD, and LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables when launching games.

Review: Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (PS5) - The Series Lands Its Most Confident Entry Yet

Rex machina. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches into a reality where its predecessor, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown , became easily the most successful entry in the series. That puts it in an odd spot; there's a pressure on the follow-up to outdo what came before, but it's that success that provides Bandai Namco Aces the means to do so. The Xbox reset doesn't have an end date | Opinion

Asha Sharma marked the conclusion of her first hundred days as Xbox CEO with a public blog post in which she called for the next hundred days to be a "reset" of the business. Highlighting the division's low "accountability margin" and declining revenues, along with macro factors like the hardware component crisis, Sharma's post was a fairly obvious omen of layoffs to come – corporate executives don't say things like "we have found ourselves over extended" or start talking about "hard truths" unless a whole lot of people are about to lose their jobs. I got whomped by an Ork horde in Total War: Warhammer 40,000, definitely on purpose, to teach you a lesson about positioning

Demo sessions are often terrible ways to see a game, doubly so at conferences. You want to sink into a game at your own pace (and with unbroken access to fresh cups of tea), not get dropped into the middle of the action, hoisted up again 20 minutes later and plonked into another section of a game. However, that's the nature of these things sometimes and it suits some games more than others. Total War: Warhammer absolutely does not suit it. Grand strategy games are built for armchair generals. Not just any armchair, either, a wingback one where the leather on the arms is nearly worn through where said general has rested their elbows in deep contemplation. They're not games made to be played in short bursts. As such, I can't really speak to Total War: Warhammer 40,000's end quality from its Gamescom demo, but perhaps it says something that after an hour where I played 20 minutes of the battle tutorial, 20 minutes of the campaign tutorial, and 20 minutes in a scenario where my Space Marine army faced an overwhelming assault from an ork horde, I still came away keen as the baked beans found in an Astra Militarium ration pack to play the full game. Has Smash Bros. pushed up the popularity of Fire Emblem (and other tertiary Nintendo franchises)?

I've been wondering this lately because Fire Emblem has been around for a long time, but I never really paid attention to the series prior to Smash Bros. adding in characters. It's always kind of the first question that gets asked about Ike and Marth and others which is "who?" "Oh they're from Fire Emblem." And that's it. That's the whole marketing strategy. Nice launch discount, and further discount in a bundle if you own prior titles. View: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4259190/Kingdom_Rush_6_Genesis_TD/ View: https://youtu.be/dgQ7SAbmCVY

Delete one file from one of your favorite games to make the game better

Delete a song file? That part of the game is now silent. Delete a sound effect file? Again, no noise. Delete an asset file? It does not load into the world. Delete an enemy file? They don't exist. Nothing replaces them. Delete a texture file? That model is just a solid color block now. Delete an animation file? Character just goes back to what they were doing. You get the idea. Assume the game will still compile and function without the file. What game, what file, what are you deleting to... Read more

LOVE alt delete is a Y2K horror visual novel where you use one AI chatbot to help you date another that, don't worry, doesn't use the nasty generative stuff

I would hope that for most of you it would not be a controversial thing to hear me say I hate generative AI. It stinks! It is rotting everyone's brains, and the people shilling it don't even care (see Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang saying he doesn't think it matters that kids aren't actually learning things like basic math when they use AI ). But - please don't leave yet - it sure does make for some primo storytelling. Like, for example, in the upcoming LOVE alt delete, a psychological horror visual novel where you are beta testing a chatbot that you're trying to date. Read more

I definitely suck at Iron Bramble's metroidvania grappling hook platforming, but its cyber-gothic megastructure world has me hungry for more

If it ain't broke, why fix it? That seems to be the thought process behind Iron Bramble, the next game from the devs behind Rusted Moss . Like its predecessor, Iron Bramble is a pixel art metroidvania , one where you have a grappling hook that lets you swing about the place at rapid pace, only this time the setting is a "cyber-gothic megastructure" and you play a story-eating demon (?) woman in a world where humanity's flesh bodies have all died out and their souls now reside in metal, robotic husks. 'Have You Heard How Much Money Kojima Wanted?': Physint's Rumoured Budget Said to Be 'Significant'

Microsoft may be spending less on it. It sounds like Hideo Kojima was demanding a significant sum of money from Sony to make the stealth action game Physint – despite him retaining ownership of its IP and intending to release it on multiple platforms. PlayStation announced earlier this month that it had pulled out of the project, which was first announced in 2024. Read the full article on pushsquare.com

Silent Hill 2 songs: Theme of Laura, Promise, and Love Psalm. Original or Remake's versions?

IMO the originals I think fit the vibe better, but the new ones are good, upbeat versions. Love Psalm also has a third version from Shattered Memories that's much more rock and has lyrics. Anyways, anyone prefer the Remake versions? Think the remake versions fit the games story vibe better? Yes the whole Remake soundtrack has updated versions of it's songs but those 3 are like the important ones. IMO

Once upon a time The Blood of Dawnwalker's timer mechanic was a lot tougher, and it's because of all those pre-release complaints that it was made easier

Right, I need you lot to pipe down for a minute because you're making games less interesting. Last week, The Blood of Dawnwalker director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz shared that the game's timer mechanics may be dropped in future installments of the vampire ( eventual ) series. This sounds like a boring decision to make if you ask me, as it's the thing that most interests me about the RPG . And now, according to Tomaszkiewicz in a new interview, the timer mechanic was actually toned down based on its early reception. Read more

The joy of parental control on handheld devices

About a year ago I got my OLED Switch (the special TotK edition) stolen in Paris, It was a work trip, no idea where in Paris it even was lost. Modder Successfully Creates Atari Jaguar OS, Envisioning The Unreleased 'Atari Painter' Home Computer

RISCy Business. A modder has given new life to a project left on Atari's cutting room floor some 35 years ago. Using the Atari Jaguar hardware as its base, Homebrewer Clint Thomson has constructed an OS that envisions the Atari Painter - an unreleased home computer scheduled to launch in the mid-'90s. The Atari Painter was pitched as a CD-based home computer that would serve as a possible successor to Atari's ST and Falcon line. The original design concept , sketched out in the early '90s by Richard Miller's R&D team, would marry the Falcon's home computer design and architecture with the Atari Jaguar's contemporary RISC circuitry. Eventually, the project was scrapped, with the entire team shifting its focus exclusively to the Jaguar itself. Read the full article on timeextension.com
