Feature: Box Art Brawl - Zone Of The Enders: The Fist Of Mars (GBA)

In the zone. Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl! Last week, we looked at a curious little game for the NES called Dragon Warrior II – not sure if you've heard of it. Regardless, while both contenders for this are excellent in their own right, it was Japan that nabbed the win with 66% of the vote – jolly good, indeed. Read the full article on nintendolife.com

The Sunday Papers

Sundays are for having the first lie-in in a month. No trips to visit family, no waking in unfamiliar beds, and, best of all, no having to wait until the hosts are up before you can get started on breakfast. I will be snoozing deeply in my own particular mattress before having a plate of toast and scrambled eggs at a time that I deem appropriate. Once that's all polished away, I will return to bed with a fresh cup of coffee and peruse the week's best writing at my own leisure. What's that? You want me to share? Fine. You can have a read of them when I'm done. Read more

Mech'in a right fuss. Back in 2019, we reported that Super Fighter Team planned to localise the excellent tactical RPG Vixen 357 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, ending decades of Japanese exclusivity for the title. Game Changer: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge - Where My Love For Konami's Legendary Series Began

You've got to start somewhere. A couple of years ago, I penned a feature for this very site which explored the idea that playing video games – like any other formative memory – can be linked to physical locations. For example, you might fondly remember a certain town because it's where you bought a favourite game; that's happened to me many times in my life. In the case of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, this memory is even more potent because the game also represented my first exposure to a series which is now my all-time favourite in the pantheon of interactive entertainment. Here's What Might Be Leaving Xbox Game Pass In November 2026

Some early predictions! What's leaving Xbox Game Pass in November 2026? Well, Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything just yet, but based on some games that were added to the service this time last year, we can at least make a few predictions ahead of time. We know that a lot of Xbox users want more advance notice of games leaving Xbox Game Pass, but Microsoft usually gives us around two weeks right now - and don't forget, publishers sometimes secure late deals with Microsoft to keep their games on Game Pass, even after they've been announced to be leaving! The Master System's Popularity In The UK Is Still Surprising Some People

Sega's 8-bit system outsold some pretty big names in the United Kingdom. In North America and Japan, the Sega Master System is little more than a footnote. Those two significant markets were dominated by the NES / Famicom, with Nintendo effectively locking out competition via some rather nefarious business practices – and its own library of genre-defining first-party releases, of course. Over in the United Kingdom, however, it was a very different story. Home computers like the ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, and Commodore Amiga were the main way to play games for most of the 1980s, and Nintendo didn't put much effort into distributing the NES in the region. Instead, it seemed quite happy to allow Sega – via its distribution partner, Virgin – to steal a march. Read the full article on timeextension.com

Review: Grant Sinclair's GamerCard – Shares Some Of Sir Clive's DNA, But This Is No ZX Spectrum-Style Triumph

Thin as a deck of cards, but more like the Joker than the Ace. I’m not going to bury the lede in this review. Playing games on the GamerCard (£149) is mostly a miserable experience. That’s a pity, because for quite a few old farts, the Sinclair name remains synonymous with gaming. The Other One: Jordan Magnuson's Game Poem jam is a fascinating collection of chimeras

Sometimes I Wonder About The Other Me is a 2D platformer created by "small game" developer Luis "Ludipe" D az Peralta, whose other works include A Place For The Unwilling. It's broken into a handful of single screen maps. On each screen, there's a Mario-brand exclamation mark block that burps a text fragment, forming an overarching monologue that begins with the title phrase. As you move between screens, you come to a signpost pointing left and right. Heading in either direction leads to a splitscreen area, with the player controlling duplicate characters. As you guide your charges rightward, one half of the screen flakes away to darkness. The remaining character returns to the starting screen, there to wonder anew about the Other Me. Read more
